LG Admin clips wings of bureaucrats
Directs them to use SRTC Bus for inspection tours instead of long cavalcade
11/11/2019 10:59:34 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 11: Lieutenant Governor seems to be very determined for implementing austerity measures on bureaucrats, who use long cavalcade during their official tours for inspecting any ongoing developmental works or projects. Sources said that in order to curtail transportation expenses, the LG administration pressed a bus of State Regional Transport Corporation (SRTC) into service in Civil Secretariat for their official tours. "Electric Bus of SRTC has been stationed in the Civil Secretariat for carrying officials, who had to go for many official tours along with other officials. Earlier, it has been observed that whenever senior bureaucrat had to go for official inspection of any project, all officials used their official vehicles putting huge burden on state exchequer," they said.
They said further adding that the move will help in putting curb on misuse of official vehicles and reduce the POL expenses, which has been generally seen in past that many such scams have come to light in this connection. The use of electric bus will also be very significant in terms of environment as it produce zero emission.
The bus service for bureaucrats has been introduced just a week ago, when a Commissioner Secretary of a particular department had to go for official inspections along with his subordinates officials and used this bus. "During their tours, they visited many places in the Jammu and Samba district on that particular day and took stock of the progress of many development works," they informed.
Although, the step taken by the government is being widely appreciated in the Civil Secretariat but there are some mixed reactions also being heard, who termed this move as an attempt to lower their status, said sources in the Civil Secretariat.
