Early Time Report

Jammu, Nov 11: Students of NSS Committee of Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) celebrated National Education Day along with the students of Govt. Middle School, Village AMB, Jammu. National Education Day is celebrated to commemorate the birth anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, the first Education Minister of independent India from 15th Feb 1947 to 22nd Feb 1958.
The programme started with the MIET students conducting Computer Literacy classes for the Middle School students on computers which were earlier donated by MIET.
Later a cultural programme was presented by the school students in which they touched upon vital social issues of drug menace, saving environment and national security.
It is worthwhile mentioning here that MIET has adopted Village AMB under which regular outreach programs are conducted. During this year MIET student volunteers organised a medical camp in the village with the help of the Red Cross Society in which medical checkup of over 140 villagers was carried out.
The needy ones were given free medicines too. For the Govt. School, MIET students collected funds and commissioned a toilet with water tank, besides replacing all broken glasses before the onset of the winter months. Sports equipment was also donated to the school and several cleanliness drives have been conducted.
