After Karnah Keran road reopens, Machil, Gurez still closed
11/13/2019 9:23:55 PM
Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 13: After Karnah, Keran road also reopened for traffic after remaining cutoff from district headquarters Kupwara in north Kashmir since Wednesday due to accumulation of snow and slippery road conditions.
However, dozens of far-flung and remote villages, including border towns of Machil and Gurez remained cut off on November 6 from their respective district and tehsil headquarters in north Kashmir due to accumulation of several feet of snow.
An official of Police Control Room (PCR), Kupwara, said over the phone on Wednesday that due to accumulation of snow, traffic on different routes, leading to far-flung and remote areas, including near Line of Control (LoC), remained suspended since November 6.
The district administration immediately put into service machines and cleared the snow on most of the roads.
He said after reopening Kupwara-Karnah road on Monday, traffic was also restored on Kupwara-Keran road.
The PCR official said now out of three main roads only Kupwara-Machil remained closed due to snow.
He said roads leading to dozens of far flung and remote villages also remained closed due to snow.
Meanwhile, the Razdan pass, connecting Gurez, Neeru and dozens of other areas near LoC in Bandipora district, also remained closed due to heavy snowfall. The road has been closed on November 6 morning for any vehicular movement due to several feet of snow and slippery conditions. ''There was more than five feet of snow at Razdan pass,'' officials said.
The authorities have already pressed into service snow clearance machines and cutters to clear the snow and put through the road, which remained closed for six winter months in the past. The government has already approved a tunnel at Razdan pass to make it an all weather road.
