Srinagar, Nov 13: Unidentified gunmen shot dead a shopkeeper at Tral in South Kashmir's Pulwama district on Wednesday, police said. It is the first civilian killing after the Jammu and Kashmir State became Union Territory officially on October 31. The slain person was identified as Mehraj-ud-din Zargar, a shopkeeper by profession. "He died on the spot," an official said, adding that probe has been started and case filed. Soon after the attack took place, police and other security forces cordoned off the area after rushing at the spot. Meanwhile, Kashmir Police Zone tweeted, "Terrorists fired on a civilian in Tral area of Awantipora. The area has been cordoned & search is in progress". The attack on shopkeeper came at a time when business and other activities were slowly and steadily opening running their daily schedule. Earlier, on August 30, unidentified gunmen shot dead a 65-year-old shopkeeper at Parimpora area of Srinagar. While as on September 30, unidentified gunmen shot at apple grower at Sopore leaving the grower and four others including a four-year-old girl injured. |
