CHC Basohli, Trauma Centre Mahanpur become showcase
MOs running hospitals in absence of Specialist docs

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 13: Shocking it may sound but it is a harsh reality that the two premier health institutions of Basohli viz Community Health Centre and Trauma Centre Mahanpur are running without specialist doctors, consequently the health care is adversely affecting in the mountainous and hilly tehsil of Kathua.
Sources informed that in both the health institutions, the specialist doctor post i,e General surgery, Orthopaedic, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Radiology and ENT but all the specialist posts are lying vacant in both Trauma and CHC except only ENT specialist are available in Trauma Centre Mahanpur while only single post of Gynaecology is fulfilled in Community Health Centre Basholi.
It is pertinent to mention here that the union government had established 10 Trauma centres in Jammu and Kashmir wherein six were established in Kashmir division whereas four in Jammu division at Ramban, Doda, Udhampur and Mahanpur of district Kathua but ironically in term of manpower (specialist docs), all of them are in state of distress.
"However, the Trauma centre at Mahanpur is of level-III where six posts of specialist doctors were sanctioned. Initially, the department of health had posted some specialist doctors but after short span of time they went on unauthorized absence and rather than taking stern action against them, all of them were transferred from Trauma Centre Mahanpur and offered new place of posting near the city limit", said a doctor while wishing anonymity.
To provide specialised treatment to road victim of accidents porn area and subsequently requirement of specialised resources to save the lives of people of hilly areas, the union ministry of health and family welfare in the year of 2008-09 sanctioned these centre but their purposes defeating day by day as department concerned failed to provide sufficient manpower to run these health institutions.
The callousness of health department can be gauged from this fact that years back, the department announced PHC for Mahanpur but the construction of PHC still incomplete and the PHC is now running from the building of the Trauma Centre which is fully yet to operationalized.
