Shimla Agreement was a mistake?

Jammu, Nov 16: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has triggered yet another debate by blaming 1972 Shimla Agreement for the problems in Jammu & Kashmir.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said," The Shimla Agreement was signed between India and Pakistan after the Pakistani Army surrendered infront of the Indian Army after Bangladesh war. The main highlight of that agreement was that India showed magnanimity and released all the 94,000 soldiers who were taken as prisoners of war. Another factor was that the then Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan agreed to resolve all the issues bilaterally."
He said," Since 1972 India has abided by the Shimla Agreement in letter and spirit and has never tried to poke its nose into the internal affairs of Pakistan but Pakistan on the other hand has violated this agreement since the day it was signed."
The analyst said," Had India not signed this agreement at that point of time half of the Pakistan would have been the part of our country today. Giving Pakistan a chance has eventually proved out to be a mistake."
He said that even after 47 years of suffering a humiliating defeat in the Bangladesh war at the hands of Indian Army, Pakistan spy agency ISI and its Army have not mend their ways. Pakistan since the day have made all the possible attempts to avenge the defeat it suffered in 1971. Despite it being a failed state it has not stopped exporting terror into Jammu & Kashmir," the analyst said. Referring to the recent statement of the former Pakistan President General Parvez Musharraf, the analyst said that Musharraf himself admitted that his country trained terrorists and terror bosses like Osama bin Laden were their heroes.
"The statement of External Affairs Minister that Shimla Agreement was a mistake makes lot of sense in today's context as Pakistan has emerged as a big nuisance for India. The neighbouring country has not done anything except inflicting wounds on us. Had it got disintegrated further in 1971 today's scourge of terrorism would not have been threatening the entire sub-continent.
"Trusting Pakistan was a biggest mistake which India committed in 1972. Not many years after putting its signatures on Shimla Agreement then Pakistan President Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto was dislodged by Pakistan Army and then hanged by the military rulers. May be at that point of time Indian leaders had realized that giving a chance to Pakistan was a big blunder but by then it was too late," said an observer.
