For BJP J&K is still a "State"
11/18/2019 10:48:25 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 18: Although BJP is celebrating bifurcation erstwhile state of J&K into two Union Territories (UTs), party leadership is still finding it difficult to come out of the hang-over of 'State'.
The leaders are finding it difficult to accept the reality that they are now leader of UT of J&K not leader of state of J&K.
On Monday, BJP issued a handout to contradict a news item published in a section of media regarding former Speaker Dr Nirmal Singh. In the press note it was clearly mentioned that " State Bharatiya Janata party has contradicted news reports carried by segment of media that Dr. Nirmal Singh continued as Speaker despite directions by party and that a segment of senior party leaders are not happy in his continuation as Speaker after formation of Union Territory"
"State Spokesperson of the party", Balbir Ram Rattan, in a press release, said that continuation by Dr. Nirmal Singh as Speaker till the government took decision on the issue was in best traditions of Legislature history as new regime had come in force and he couldn't have left on his own or resigned .
Balbir said that it is absolutely false that any decision was taken by party at any level to ask Dr. Nirmal Singh to step down and media reports to that extent are not true. He further added that Dr. Nirmal Singh had always stood by high moral standards he had set while discharging his Constitutional obligations as Deputy Chief Minister and subsequently as Speaker of Legislative Assembly and he will be remembered for good works done by him in both capacities.
