JKNPP to support agitation of lawyers: Harsh Dev
11/19/2019 10:04:32 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 19: Expressing solidarity with the cause of the agitating lawyers, Harsh Dev Singh, Chairman-JKNPP & former Minister today appealed the govt. to honour their genuine concerns at the earliest possible. He said that transfer of registration powers to Revenue Department was a nasty proposition which was being opposed not only by the lawyers but the common masses as well. Given the dubious notoriety which te Revenue Department had earned over the years, Singh added the people in general were skeptical about the whole process and were lending direct and indirect support to the movement launched by the lawyers. He said that the Panthers Party fully endorsed the demand for restoration of the earlier practice of registration in view of its widespread acceptability by the general masses. "While the people have full faith in the earlier system of registration through Judicial Officers, they have bonafide apprehensions in the event of the said powers going into the hands of unscrupulous officials", said Singh. He said that given the past experience there was every likelihood of the said powers being abused by reckless officers in collusion. Though there were good officers also in the Revenue Department but that aura of justice and fairness could never be imbibed by the said Department said the NPP Chairman, who is also a Lawyer and a Member of Bar Association of the High Court of J&K. Supporting further the demand for retention of High Court at Janipur Complex, Singh said that newly proposed site would not only be inconvenient to public but would involve large scale destruction of Forest resources in view of it being Forest area. He said that rather than creating controversies, the govt. should concentrate on augmenting facilities and betterment of civic amenities. The traffic congestion on the Janipur road was a serious matter of concern which needed govt's priority attention. He appealed the govt. to undertake road widening besides construction of Flyovers to facilitate the movement of commuters in the said area that was accommodating the highest court of Judicature in the State.
