Srinagar, Nov 19: A massive operation was underway to rescue a soldier who is missing after a huge snow avalanche hit a camp at Siachen glacier, the highest battle field in the word, in Ladakh Union Territory (UT). Six soldiers and two porters were buried alive under a huge snow avalanche in north of Siachen on Monday at 1530 hrs. A massive rescue operation was immediately launched, official sources said, adding that five soldiers and two porters were recovered in a critical condition and shifted to base camp. However, four soldiers and two porters were declared brought dead while another was later referred to Army hospital at Nobra. A soldier was still missing, they said, adding that search operation continued till late in the night. |
