SKUAST-J organises officers' monthly workshop

UDHAMPUR, Nov 19 : Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organised officers monthly workshop under Training &Visit(T&V) programme here at Chief Agriculture Office, Udhampur. The meeting was attended by a large number of extension officers from the state departments of Udhampur, Ramban and Reasi districts. The workshop was organised under the able guidance of Director Extension and Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, Dr.KS Risam. Dr.Ravinder Singh Soodan,Associate Professor,SKUAST-J welcomed the participants and briefed the objectives of the workshop. While elaborating the monthly message he said that the recommended Rabi season varieties of SKUAST-J should be utilized by the farmers.He gave a detail view on the scientific cultivation of wheat crop and highlighted the balance doses of fertilizers.He also emphasized on the disease resistant varieties of Rabi season crops and urged the participants to take the consultations from the experts of SKUAST-J before the further recommendations to the farmers. Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr. Banarsi Lal stressed on the commodity villages and said that there is need to commercialise the agriculture so that the income of the farmers can be enhanced.
He discussed on winter vegetables and highlighted the use of biopesticides, biofuncides and biofertilizers in the Rabi crops.
so that crops yield can be increased by the minimum inputs. He stressed on the Farmers Producer Organisations(FPOs) and added that value addition of crops can play a significant role in enhancing the income and employment among the farmers. He said that socio-economic status can be increased if the yield of crops is increased and it is possible only when the farmers adopt the latest technologies in crops production.
