Changing Scenario
11/21/2019 10:10:39 PM
Recently, National General Secretary of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP), Ram Madhav stated that political engagement in Jammu & Kashmir should start sooner or later. After batting for political engagement he was quick to add that if the political leaders in Kashmir are released they could lead protests and it would be detrimental for peace. The BJP leader seems to have hinted at starting the political process with the leaders from Generation-next and not the ones who are under detention. Madhav's statement is significant. More than 100 days have passed since August 5 when the Government of India (GoI) bifurcated the erstwhile State of Jammu & Kashmir into two Union Territories, J&K and Ladakh, but till date people at the helm have maintained complete silence over the fate of Kashmiri leaders who were detained post August 5. Ram Madhav has broken his silence but he has spoken like a politician. He has said that sky could be the limit for the political leaders of J&K but they cannot cross the line and all the negotiations will be held within the ambit of the Constitution. With each passing day it is becoming clear that Government of India wants to groom the new leaders in Kashmir who will have respect for national interest and will hold the tricolour close to their hearts. In new India there is no space for the leaders who preach separatism and sedition. Only those leaders who have full faith in Indian democracy and believe in nationalism are welcome. During the past 70 years Kashmiri leaders have spoken in one language in New Delhi and another in Kashmir. Since 1947 they misled people by telling them that J&K's accession with the Union of India was temporary and they are all powerful to break this bond. However, the GoI has bitten the bullet and has shown these leaders their worth. Their false propaganda stands punctured. Even if these leaders are released they have nothing to sell as the times have changed. Hollow slogans like Autonomy, Self Rule and Achievable Nationhood have gone with the wind and won't be raised anymore. Ram Madhav has given the hint and now the ball is in the court of the new generation of political leaders. They have to set their own benchmarks. They cannot follow the footsteps of the leaders who claim to represent Kashmir after just getting 10 percent vote share in the elections.
