Jammu, Nov 21: As one keenly observes the the government orders issued specifically by the General Administration Department (GAD) of Jammu and Kashmir post October 31, there is no government emblem posted atop on the official documents.
Such a vital development has clearly revealed that the 67 year old emblem of Jammu and Kashmir adopted on November 17 1952 is no longer valid. The last government order in which the Emblem of Jammu and Kashmir was used was about the release of the "Release of salary for the month of Oct 2019". Afterwards when Jammu and Kashmir was turned into a union territory on October 31, the emblem cannot be found even on a single official order of the GAD.
When contacted, a senior official of the Jammu and Kashmir administration wishing not to be named told Early Times that the emblem which was also an official symbol of Jammu and Kashmir government is no longer valid.
The emblem adopted on November 17 1952 depicted a lotus flower rising out of a lake as its central elements. The lake is flanked by two ploughs and supported by ears of grain. Below is a triangular representation of a mountain peak and a banner bearing the name of the state in English. The three broad stripes shown within the lake represent the three geographical areas of the state at the time the emblem was adopted, the Jammu region, the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh.
As per the officials, this 67 years old emblem of Jammu and Kashmir has been turned null and void and that the government is yet to decide what shall be the new symbol of Jammu and Kashmir's UT Administration.
Pertinent to mention that the oldest emblem of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir dates back to the time of Maharaja Gulab Singh (1846-1857). It shows a sun in splendour rising behind a four topped mountainridge between four devanagiri letters. Above the shield is a crown between two striped flags in saltire. The shield is supported by two soldiers of the royal guard with the royal badge, being a faced sun in splendour, on their breast with the motto which reads Prasamsta Ranavirata (Glory and Courage in Contest).
As per the official sources, there are his chances that the administration in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir will function without an symbol and emblem for now and there has been no discussion over whether the new emblem will ever be adopted. "You must have seen the orders being issued by the General Administration Department (GAD) of Jammu and Kashmir has no emblem atop since November 1, this year. It clearly indicates that there shall be no official symbol for now in the newly created union territory," says an official.
Central government on November 1 formally revoked the state of Jammu and Kashmir's constitutional autonomy and split it into two federal territories in an attempt to integrate it fully into the country.
At midnight on October 31, the state was formally taken under direct control and split into the territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh, bringing an end to decades of semi-autonomous rule.
The state's constitution, as well as its penal code and state flag, was nullified, and the region is now subject to the same central laws as all other Indian territories.
