11/22/2019 9:26:40 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Nov 22: Reiterating its demand of preserving cultural and ethnic identities of whole Jammu province after abrogation of Article 370, Team Jammu on Friday asked administration of Union Territory (UT) of J&K to make institutional arrangements to project job and land rights of the people.
Addressing a meeting of the executive committee members of Team Jammu here today to discuss situation emerged after formal declaration of J&K as UT, chairman of Team Jammu Zorawar Singh Jamwal expressed concern over prevailing uncertainty and chaos regarding job and land rights to locals. "It is high-time for the government to remove apprehensions among people", Zorawar Singh Jamwal said and strongly demanded that interests of locals of Jammu province should be protected at any cost.
"People of Jammu region have supported the steps taken by the Union Government after August 5 for the complete integration of J&K with Indian Union but now it is responsibility of the Centre to address wishes and aspirations of the nationalist people of J&K", he said and reminded that central government has repeatedly assured to protect rights of the people of Jammu region. He cautioned that ignoring interests of local youth in jobs and employment would create alienation among nationalist people of Jammu.
"To allay prevailing fear among people, there is a need to grant a domicile-like option on the pattern of neighbouring Himachal Pradesh to protect the interests of locals", Zorawar Singh Jamwal said and stressed on the need of making some kind of safeguards to protect the economical as well as cultural identities of locals under the UT.
"The Centre has to take into consideration sentiments of the Dogras while preparing final roadmap for newly carved UT of J&K. We demand a domicile and Article 371 on the pattern of Himachal Pradesh to save the identity of Dogras", he said, adding, "To save the identity of Dogras and to prevent flooding of land mafias and grabbers, an arrangement under Article 371 like (HP) and the eastern states should be adopted for both new UTs".
"Government should make institutional arrangement that a person or family can get domicile certificate after residing for a minimum period of 15-20 years in the state, that too with a record of good character and nationalism", Team Jammu chairman said, adding, "It will help conserving the 'Dogra Riasat' and 'Dogra Virasat' as it is the old-age tradition of erstwhile Jammu and Kashmir state,".
