PM Modi's dream of Ayushman Bharat for a New India
Vinod Chandrashekhar Dixit11/22/2019 9:45:52 PM
Ayushman Bharat is one of the revolutionary steps towards a new India. Our PM Narendra Modi deserves a big kudos for launching one of the largest government-sponsored health insurance schemes "Ayushman Bharat" in the world. The Ayushman Bharat scheme is a government health insurance program that will cover about 100 million poor and vulnerable families in India providing up to INR 0.5 million per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization services. The mega public health insurance scheme called Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PM-JAY) is now popularly known as the Ayushman Bharat. The Ayushman Bharat family is growing by leaps and bounds. PM Modi took initiative and aimed to solve the problem of impoverishment because of the rising expenditure on healthcare. Gujarat state has emerged as the top performing state under Ayushman Bharat scheme. As per the National Health Authority, the Gujarat state ranks first on all the key parameters, including the number of claims and amount of claims.
ABY aims to cater to 50 crore beneficiaries. It has a provision for a health cover of Rs.5 lakh for families living below the poverty line. The health cover itself is totally free with the annual premiums being footed by the central and state governments in a 60: 40 ratio.
In addition, it also proposes to establish 150,000 health and wellness centers all over the country providing comprehensive primary health care. The beneficiaries of the hospital insurance scheme can avail health care services from both public and empanelled private health facilities.
The scheme, which has primary, secondary, and tertiary care components, places a great focus on the secondary and tertiary care services and requires more investment in comprehensive primary health care. "Right to health" is central to exercise the basic human rights. In a tweet, Modi says that ABY is breaking the vicious cycle of poverty and disease while making health care affordable and accessible.
ABY will not only lead to better infrastructure development in rural and under-served areas across the country, but also lead to more and more Indians having access to healthcare. As of now the government has created 1350 medical packages that cover day care treatment, surgery, hospitalization, cost of diagnosis and medicines with the PMJAY health cover. Presently, 32 States and Union Territories are implementing the scheme and more than 10 crore beneficiary cards have been issued. More than 18,000 hospitals are providing services across the country, out of which more than 50 per cent are private hospitals.
Ayushman Bharat ensures better treatment to patients in any part of the country. In one year, Ayushman Bharat has completed 50 lakh hospital admissions. Official report says that there were 9 hospital admissions every minute across India in the first year. India is running the world's largest health care scheme successfully due to strong determination of Modi Government. The aim of PM-JAY is to bring quality healthcare to more than 50 crore poor and vulnerable Indians across the country. ABY scheme has raised expectations that the scheme will somehow address the extremely urgent needs regarding healthcare in the country. Expectations have also been raised because of the labeling of the scheme as the 'largest health protection scheme in the world' and the promise that beneficiaries will receive Rs.5 lakhs as cost of hospitalization.
There is no doubt and the figures reveals the fact that the Poor people in India are not able to avail the best health infrastructure and remained devoid of quality healthcare services, but with Ayushman Bharat, people are now able to avail the best treatment even in their non residing states. Modicare" is described as the world's largest government-funded health insurance scheme.
