India shackled by tainted and politicians of geriatric age
Mahadeep Singh Jamwal11/22/2019 9:46:26 PM
Let us thank our most revered Constitution that allows criminals to contest elections and to govern India and Law breakers to make laws for the law abiding citizens. The highest seat of Justice also rendered helpless by this Constitution and paramount powers shifted to the same group of representatives among them many are charged of murder, rape, attempt to murder, and many heinous crimes. We must appreciate the vision of our Constitution compilers, who dragged its provisions from the Constitution of other countries and gave these provisions of tainted representatives from their own vision as we do not come across anywhere in World where such provisions exists. Knowingly this shortfall in our Constitution, still our Parliament dare not to amend the Constitution on these lines as Political parties are dependent on this tainted fraternity to capture power seats. The background of almost all carries stigmas at their back and they feel proud after the courts gave them clean chits.
The most interesting fact is that in India the geriatric age group actually rules the young India by occupying ministerial posts and only finger count from youth. If we visit the Hinduism it suggest human life comprises of four stages called as 'Ashramas' and every man ideally go through each of these stages. These are "Brahmacharya" the stage of formal education and it lasts until the age of 25, "Grihastha" the stage of responsibilities and lasts till 50 years, "Vanaprastha", lasts till the age of 75 years. At this age, one should renounce all physical, material and allied pleasures, retire from his social and professional life spending his time in prayers and last stage "Sannyasa" above 75 years of age.
It bothers to common enlightened person that our politicians run the affairs at the age fixed by the government for its employees as retirement age. The dissatisfaction regarding the governing of country by this geriatric fraternity is because of the facts that above 80% of these leaders are above the sixty years of age and 31% are tainted and facing murder, rape and heinous crime charges and they are not in a position to keep them apprised about the changing world on scientific lines. It is not intended that old people should leave the political scene and rest. What is wanted is that they should be there but for guidance because they are treasures of invaluable experience.
The youth face many issues in the country; mostly these issues go unheard because of marginal representation of youth in law framing machinery. In actual the population below fifty years is not really satisfied the way our country is being governed by the people above sixty years. There can be two reasons for this deplorable scene of Indian politics. One may be that the youth today are not interested in actively participating in the political field. They are content with what they are doing and how the country is being governed. But this reason seems to hold no ground seeing the discontent shown by the youngsters on many decisions and policies of the government and various movements which shattered the country politics. Second reason may be that young people are not given opportunities to prove themselves claiming that they are not equipped with experience to participate actively in the governance of the country. This reason seems to be more logical seeing the monopoly of old leaders in almost all the major political parties of the country. Old people should realize that proper development can take place only when they make way for younger people to take control of the activities.
The youth of modern India are aware of the problems facing our country and the world at large. The country desperately needs some young leaders who personify energy, enthusiasm, morality, and diligence. The Youth are not only leaders of tomorrow, but also partners of today. India witnessing a radical change in the mindset of youth towards governance and policies, and increasing despair among people due to continuous compromise of citizens' welfare. The youth is fed up with these rusty politicians who are responsible for accommodating tainted and those charged with murder, rape, and heinous crime. Our leaders project themselves as saints and exhibit many dramatic activities to impress the common man of their selfless service but in actuality are the power lusty leaders and rely on criminals and accommodate them in government and in parliament and in this way it is the replica of the story 'Ali Baba aur Chalis Chor'. It is appropriate time to come forward of motivated and inspired youth from across the country to deliberate and work towards effective policy, change and development. As for the youth of our country, they can contribute in more ways than just contesting elections. Much can be done in areas like educating people, raising awareness about various social ills, and many other areas. We have only a handful of young leaders but they are in the political scenario because they belong to influential political families. It is next to impossible to find a young leader with no political family background in the furor of politics.
India is one of the youngest democracies having 65% of its population below the 35 years. Policies effecting youth can be framed by young people themselves rather than old politicians, who most probably cannot feel the contemporary problems, young people are facing. We can strongly feel that; there should be a retirement age for politicians, which may be around 65 years. There should also be some educational qualification for politicians. How can we give those illiterates the key to our country that we cannot give the key to our house? People with serious criminal background should not be allowed to contest elections. Reservation for youth should be created in the political parties and in the parliament as well. The children and relatives of the politicians should be excluded from this reservation benefits. Youth should be given opportunity to do teaching fellowship in the parliament. Political awareness should be given to the students of schools and universities and they should be encouraged to participate in the politics. Political awareness campaigns must ensure that young people are turning out in the elections to cast their vote. Young people led community development programs and volunteering organizations must be supported by the government. Youth groups should be allowed to visit the national parliaments. Youth movements should be dealt in a respectable way and their voices need to be heard in the parliament.
