Early Times Report
Jammu, Nov 22: With no end to apparent pampering of Kashmir province, which bats for separatist sentiment, in the latest, the government has approved a whopping Rs 399 crores for completion of languishing projects in the restive valley. The delay of similar project executions in Jammu, however, doesn't seem to be government's priority.
Official sources told Early Times that the administration in Kashmir recently held a "special meeting" to review developmental projects and sought details of the languishing projects.
Sources said the meeting was informed that around 100 projects are languishing in Kashmir valley. Sources said major chunk of languishing projects reported from the Industries Department with over 15 projects wanting Rs 113 crore for completion while the money was sanctioned on the spot.
Likewise in the Youth Services and Sports Department Rs 40 crores were granted for completion of 23 pending projects. Official sources added that for the 17 projects pending in PHE, Rs 70 odd crore were granted.
The R&B has been given Rs 46 crore for 12 languishing projects while the PDD has been granted over Rs 20 crores, the official sources said.
The senior officials in the Civil Secretariat said what is "most shocking" is that no such meeting has been held to take stock of languishing projects in Jammu region in general or the winter capital in particular.
"The biggest shame for the administration has been that the construction of artificial lake on river Tawi was never completed, but this matter doesn't seem to be the priority for the government as the city of temples continues to be as neglected as always," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
The apparent discrimination with Jammu continues though this city has warmly welcomed the decision of the Modi government to abrogate the special status of the erstwhile state.
The Kashmir province on the contrary has been siding with the separatists and continued with a hartal against the government decision.
When contacted a senior official said the delay in completion of projects in Jammu was a major issue and would be addressed soon.
Meanwhile the well meaning voices in Jammu have appealed Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu to personally look into the matter.
