31st Jammu District Volleyball Championship begins

JAMMU, Nov 22: The 31st Jammu District Volleyball Championship being organised by Jammu District Volleyball Association under the aegis of Volleyball Association of J&K was declared open by Dr Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu in university campus, here today. Dr Baba, who was the Chief Guest on the opening day of championship, underlined the importance of holding such sports competitions for overall development of youth which can prove an asset for University of Jammu in coming days. Besides this, he said involvement of young players in sports would shun the evils of drug menace which is spreading alarmingly nowadays.
The Chief Guest also lauded the efforts organizers and Volleyball Association of J&K for conducting such events frequently and assured every possible help on behalf of University of Jammu in making such joint ventures successful. Amongst prominent persons present on the occasion were Manmeet Singh (President Jammu District Volleyball Association), H S Gill (General Secretary Jammu District Volleyball Association) Kuldip Magotra (Chief Executive Officer VAJK and Associate Secretary Volleyball Federation of India), V K Magotra (General Secretary VAJK), R.C Sharma (Treasurer VAJK), Sajad Hussain (Joint Secretary VAJK), Vikas Karlopia (Volleyball Coach Jammu University), Rajiv Dogra (SAI Volleyball Coach), Dr Brij Baloria, K S Arora and O P Sharma. In the two-day championship a total of 16 teams including eight girl and eight boys sections are participating. Besides local teams of Jammu city, teams from border areas of Salher, Allaha, Khour and R S Pura are in the race for clinching championship. The championship which is being held in collaboration with Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu and J&K Sports Council will conclude on November 23, 2019.

Semifinals: Volleyball Club Khour beat Allha Cluib 3-2 (26-24, 25-21, 23-25, 17-25, 15-10); and Stadium Volleyball Club A beat GHSS Salher 3-0 (25-22, 26-24, 25-19)
GIRLS: Trikuta Volleyball Club A beat Pinto Club Akhnoor 2-0 (25-22, 25-11); Army Children Club Junior beat Jammu Volleyball Club 2-0 (25-21, 25-15); Army Children Club Senior beat Trikuta Volleyball Club-B 2-0 (25-06, 25-09).
Semifinals: Trikuta Volleyball Club-A beat Army Children Club Junior by 3-2 (25-20, 23-25, 20-25, 25-22, 15-13); and Army Children Club Senior beat Volleyball Club Youth for Nation 3-0 (25-10, 25-14, 25-11).
