| DB expresses displeasure over lack of admission to transgenders community in educational institutions | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, Nov 30: Hearing a Public Interest Litigation seeking rights to transgenders in J&K, a division bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice and Justice Sanjeev Kumar shown displeasure over lack of admissions to transgenders community in educational institutions, directed respondents to ensure that persons belonging to the transgender community are given admissions in colleges and schools. In this regard, even admission forms have to be collected. If action taken report has not been filed within three weeks from today, the Secretary to School Education Department as well as Secretary to School Higher Education Department shall remain personally present before this Court on the next date of hearing.
It is worthwhile to mention here that Division Bench already directed DB directed Chief Secretary to examine this aspect of the matter and, if possible, designate/constitute a dedicated authority for the welfare of transgenders. Such authority would function as a nodal authority and will go a long way in mitigating the woes of the transgenders. --(JNF) |
