Students, businessmen badly hit by unjustified internet ban: Harsh
12/1/2019 9:43:01 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 1: Peeved over the continued ban over mobile internet services in Jammu region scores of Panthers Party activists led by Harsh Dev Singh Chairman JKNPP along with other leaders staged a massive protest demonstration at Exhibition Ground in Jammu today.
The agitated protestors raised the slogans of 'Daman ki Rajneeti… Nahin Chalegi, nahin Chalegi', ' Jammu mein mobile internet seva bahal karo…bahal karo', 'Kashmir ke gunahon ki saza Dogron ko dena band karo…band karo'.
Lambasting the Government for snapping the mobile internet services in Jammu region for nearly 118 days, Harsh Dev Singh dubbed the administration's decision to continue ban on the internet services as arbitrary and obnoxious move which has pushed people to Stone Age. What's the justification for continuing the ban when govt. claims the situation to be normal? He said that the aforesaid ban only corroborated the fact that the present government is incapable of curbing a handful of anti-national elements, malefactors and the offenders of the law in J&K. Instead of tracking and apprehending the notorious characters, the BJP at the Centre ordered the complete shut- down of the internet services. Not only had the students been adversely affected by internet gag but functioning of the commercial and business organizations besides the media houses had suffered losses worth several hundreds of crores, regretted Harsh. Harsh Dev Singh while expressing his indignation over the State government's totalitarian moves, said that the communication gag had divested the people of their fundamental right of speech and expression guaranteed in the Constitution of India. "Prolonged internet blockade of this kind has never happened before. BJP after assuming power has been often resorting to such authoritarian moves only to demonstrate its authority and power. Such tactics would only aggravate public outrage against the government's highhandedness. Stalling mobile internet services had adversely impacted the normal life as broadband facility was not available everywhere.
