| Div Com devises SOPs for smooth plying of traffic on Ganderbal-Kargil-Leh road | | |

SRINAGAR, Dec 2: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today chaired a meeting to devise Standard Operative Procedures (SOPs) for smooth plying of traffic on Ganderbal-Kargil-Leh road. As per the SOPs which will come into effect today, the SSP Ganderbal will be nodal officer for taking a final call as to whether traffic including Army vehicles would be allowed or not to ply on Ganderbal-Kargil road. SSP Ganderbal will make announcements 12 hours prior to the commuters, after receiving inputs from MET, SASE and Weather reports ( morning & evening) on daily basis, besides receiving update from BEACON and Rural Traffic authorities regarding the status of road conditions. While giving the status of road, BEACON authorities have to inform the SSP regarding the type of vehicles like 4 by 4 and chain mounted wheels. BEACON has to sprinkle chemicals on the road on daily basis to avoid slippery conditions.
The BEACON authorities informed the meeting that the traffic will resume on Ganderbal-Kargil-Leh road soon, however one- way traffic will be allowed to ply on the road. The Div Com directed the GM BSNL to deploy the officials responsible for operating mobile tower at Ranga-Mode on Ganderbal-Kargil-Leh road to restore cell connectivity in the area. Concerned department and agencies were asked to adhere to the Standard Operative Procedures in letter and spirit and any violation of if should be dealt with strictly under per law. Chief Engineer BEACON, Additional Commissioner Kashmir Bilal Ahmad Bhat, SSP Traffic (Rural), Assistant Commissioner (central) with Div Com, Engineers of BEACON and other concerned officers were present in the meeting where as Deputy Commissioner and SSP of Ganderbal district participated the meeting through video conferencing. |
