PCB observes National Pollution Prevention Day

JAMMU, Dec 2: Jammu & Kashmir Pollution Control Board observed National Pollution Prevention day by organizing a workshop on the theme of "Prevention of Industrial Accidents" at SIDCO, Bari- Brahmna in collaboration with Industrial Association Bari Brahmna, Kathua & Samba wherein Industrialists & entrepreneurs from several districts were invited.
Member Secretary, J&K Pollution Control Board B. M. Sharma, Regional Director PCB, Jammu Dr. Syed Nadeem Hussain, Presidents of Industrial Association Bari Brahmna, Kathua & Samba and representatives from various Industrial units including pesticides, pharmaceuticals, food processing and beverages, plastics manufacturing/recycling attended the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Member Secretary B.M. Sharma appreciated the efforts taken by Regional Director PCB to organize such awareness workshop by ensuring the participation of all concerned industrial units to understand the impact of industrial accidents and need to take preventive measures.
He also stressed that all public sectors and entrepreneurs need to work jointly to prevent any further damage to environment. He also informed the gathering that JKPCB has started levying Environmental Compensation on the defaulters in line with the directions of the NGT.
Regional Director J&K PCB Dr. Syed Nadeem Hussain impressed upon all the industrialists and entrepreneurs dealing with hazardous material to take all necessary precautions and measures to avoid any kind of eventuality.
Resource person Dr. Divya Gupta gave a detailed presentation about the preventive measures that Industries should adopt to prevent any accidental leakage of harmful chemicals/gases into the atmosphere.
Presidents of Industrial Association ensured that industrial sector shall comply with all directions issued from PCB in matters pertaining to combat industrial pollution.
