Present internet gag plagues Jammu's civil service aspirants

Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 2: The constant internet shutdown in Jammu is taking a heavy toll upon region's civil service aspirants who term the gag as a biggest impudent in their learning process, leaving them at the mercy of a dreadful situation.
The mobile internet in Jammu region, besides Kashmir continues to remain blocked since August 5 this year when the government revoked Article 370 and Article 35-A. In Jammu, though in October, the low speed mobile internet was restored for a day, it was however blocked again due to unknown reasons.
Now, when four months have passed since the imposition of the internet gag, thousands of aspirants appearing in civil services like IAS or IPS say the primary source information like current affairs and online journals, come to them via internet only and with the mobile data snapped in entirety, these ill- fated students term the current situation most trying and troublesome. According to them, they cannot watch the online videos of experts of various fields who upload their weekly lessons on social networking sites like YouTube and facebook. These students are further disgruntled over how access to the online journals and newspapers that constitute a vital aspect of civil services, has been sadistically denied to them. "Not all can have the luxury of the high speed internet at home. We primarily rely upon the mobile internet. It is a sorry state of affairs that Jammu that has been absolutely peaceful even when there were apprehensions of law and order has been exposed to such hardships with its students left in lurch and those who claim to represent the region are in slumber, " says a civil service aspirant based in Jammu.
Another student who is attempting the civil services second time says his chances to clear this time also seem bleak. "Internet provides the backbone of any competitive exams these days. The authorities should have understood the implications of keeping the services shut for so long," he said.
Earlier, there were reports that the government is all set to make mobile internet functional in Jammu region by December 1st week. However, no official action, so far has been taken to make the mobile buzz with internet notifications again.
The Jammu and Kashmir administration, as per the sources, had also taken serous note of the hardships students and business fraternity of Jammu region has been facing for more than 100 days due to lack of mobile internet services. As per the reports, the directions were issued from the higher officials to take the necessary measures as per the situation on the ground and if there is normality in the region with people completely cooperating with the administration, why should they be punished for the sins they never committed. The Cellular Operators Association of India an amalgam of GSM mobile players, had revealed that the overall telecom industry operating in the erstwhile state suffers the loss of Rs 2 crores on daily basis when the calling and data services are suspended.
