Workshop on Jal Jeewan Mission held
Piped water to each JK household by 2022

SRINAGAR, Dec 4: A day-long workshop on Jal Jeevan Mission, organized by PHE, was held here today to discuss various modalities with regard to implementation of the initiative in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the inaugural session of the workshop, Commissioner Secretary PHE and Irrigation & Flood Control, Ajit Kumar Sahu gave a detailed presentation regarding the Mission implementation. He informed that PHE has formulated an action plan to connect every household of J&K with piped water supply by 2022 which is two years ahead of the national deadline of 2024 for the Mission.
He said that the Mission seeks to converge with other government and centrally sponsored schemes for sustainable water supply management in J&K and the Department is working with meticulous planning and faster execution to achieve the set targets under the Mission. Sahu further said that the Mission would be carried out in a phased manner and the first phase would be executed by June, 2020, 2nd phase by June, 2021 and 3rd phase will begin by December 2021.
It was said that the phase 1st will cover Ganderbal, Pulwama, Shopian, Srinagar, Samba, Poonch and Reasi districts. The Commissioner Secretary maintained that the coverage of the select blocks with least number of uncovered households would be fully covered by June 2020..
During his address, he also called for making concerted efforts so that Jammu and Kashmir becomes the top performer in providing piped water to every household.
