Bhalla joins agitating Panchayat members, demands clearing pending payments
12/6/2019 9:32:13 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 6: Former Minister and senior Congress leader Raman Bhalla on Friday said that strengthening of panchayats in J&K necessary to bring peace and development at grass root level being grass-root level democracy . This was stated by former Minister while interacting with Panchayat members who are agitating to press govt to address their genuine demands.
Bhalla on the occasion advocated for strengthening the Panchayati Raj institution and fulfil the demands of Panchayat members. You have a bigger role in Jammu and Kashmir's politics and governance," he told the agitating panchayats' members.
Supporting ongoing hunger strike launched by Sarpanchs and Panchs, seeking clearing of pending payments and liabilities under MGNERGA for last over four years, Bhalla demanded Govt to release wages under MGNERGA at the earliest as the scheme has been given name of Father of Nation and in no way its deep rooted adjective should be compromised. Any further delay in conceding their demands would only prolong the agitation and works in rural areas will suffer, for which the Government would be responsible," Bhalla said.
He maintained that the payments of all those who have supplied raw materials for works under MGNREGA should also be released as their families are unnecessarily being made to suffer in wake of holding their payments.
