| KVK Poonch organizes World Soil Day | | |  Early Times Report
Poonch, Dec 7: Krishi Vigyan Kendra Poonch, under the patronage of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Jammu, celebrated World Soil Day today at Khanetar Dalera.
The programme was attended by more than 75 farmers from Dalera and nearby villages. Dr. Ajay Gupta , Sr. Scientist & Head, KVK Poonch explained the importance of celebration of 'World Soil Day as soils provide plants with essential minerals and nutrients.
He stated that healthy soils are important for food and nutritional security and for a healthy life. He also explained about role of macro and micro nutrients in the plant growth and gave a detailed lecture regarding judicious use of fertilizers in the crops keeping in mind sustainability and health of the soil.
Dr Ajay Gupta emphasised the need for regular testing of soils for optimum use of chemical fertilizers and better soil management practices in the district. He also discussed improved agronomic practices for increasing production of wheat and other rabi crops.
Kulbir Singh , JAEO elaborated various technologies for sustainable soil health and water management. He highlighted the importance of well rotten FYM in maintaining soil fertility and balance fertilization for improving soil health. |
