12/7/2019 10:13:56 PM

Early Times Report

Kupwara, Dec 7: Residents of Kupwara district are up in arms against the Power Development Department as they are facing unscheduled power cuts.
Residents of Kupwara town and its outskirts while talking to our correspondent they said that "The Department doesn't adhere to the schedule due to which the students preparing for examination are facing hardships," they added.
"When PDD installed meters in our area we were told that we would get power supply round the clock, but their promises turned out to be a hoax," residents said. The situation in the rural areas is far worse and most of the villages and townships don't get electricity for days together. Irked by the frequent power cuts, the people have started taking to streets to protest against the power shortage. The situation in un-metered and remote villages of Kupwara, Langate, Handwara, Kralpora, Trehgam, Hayhama and valley Lolab is no different.
Many remote villages, including Badkoot, Rajpora, kalmoona, Hafrada, Rangward, Marseri and Budnambal are facing acute power shortage.
"Officials said the power distribution system in kupwara district is under tremendous stress due to overload."
In Drugmulla, Vodhpora, Muhgalpora and other villages power supplied from Arampora grid station is disrupted after every half an hour. "PDD resorts to continuous power cuts," locals said. Residents of Kupwara, Tikker, Hirri, Trehgam and Kralpora complained that power plays hide and seek and during night hours the supply goes off for hours together.
