Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 8: Despite strict directions from the District Administrations of Poonch and Rajouri for prohibiting any construction in notified areas flood zone areas, yet the illegal constructions by the locals have been going on unabated and the concerned administrations have been acting as mute spectators.
Sources told Early Times that post 2014 flash flood in the entire State, the district administrations of Poonch and Rajouri had declared some locations under Red Zone i.e highly danger for living as hundreds of the houses were washed away in flash flood in 2014.
"Huge loss of property and lives was witnessed in the 2014 yet people started constructions in front of Rajouri Highway Bridge (Salani Pul) and Sher-E Kashmir Bridge Poonch, which were declared unsafe for any habitation," they said.
Although district administrations of Poonch and Rajouri had kept provision of lodging FIR against the violators, yet the illegal constructions have been continuing and no action on the apart of Distt Adminstration is being taken against the offenders which has raised serious question mark on the working of police, they said.
The locals said that if administrations have declared some places as unsafe for living, then the people whose houses were damaged in flood should be rehabilitated in some safe place by providing them adequate land. They appealed to Lieutenant Governor to take this matter serious and urged him to direct the local administrations take appropriate actions on violation.
