Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 8: Continuing its thrust to promote short treks for school students in the Surinsar-Mansar-Mohore Garh area during winter months Tawi Trekkers J&K organized 5th Adventure Picnic for 85 tiny tots of J.K. Montessorie Senior Secondary School, Talab Tillo, Jammu. Since the average age of the students was only 7 years, they were accordingly accompanied by 10 teachers and 3 other staff of the school, besides trained escorts of Tawi Trekkers J&K.
Sanjiv Gupta, Managing Director and Rajni Gupta, Academic Director of the school also visited the camp
and encouraged the students to boldly face the challenge of mountains. Sonam Sidharth, a senior member of the club was overall in-charge of the group who was very ably assisted by other trained mountaineers- Manik Slathia, Arif Mohamad, Abhimanyu Sherpa, Sahil Khajuria and teachers of the school.
The budding trekkers in the age group of 5 to 8 years were very excited and fully enjoyed their maiden outdoor venture.
They were thrilled to visit the zoo where they watched Peacocks, Deers, Neelgai, other beautiful birds and wild animals, and learnt about their habitat and behaviors.
It was a memorable learning experience for the budding trekkers and they showed keen interest to take up such ventures more frequently in future.
While the purpose of the club behind conducting these one-day treks is to promote lesser known beauty spots, historical and religious places in Surinsar-Mansar-Mohore Garh area and bring them on the tourist map of J&K, the club has also planned to open up some other trekking trails in the area for senior students and members.
