Having ignored Panchayats, ULBs, Congress trying to woo them: Raman Suri
12/10/2019 9:22:15 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 10: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State Executive Member Raman Suri today lashed out at Congress leaders for provoking the elected members of Panchayats and said that it was Congress, National Conference (NC) and People's Democratic Party (PDP) that didn't empower Panchayats, never held elections to Block Development Councils and even allowed duly elected Municipal Corporations (MC), committees and other local bodies lapse without holding elections to them. These political outfits, Raman Suri said always held powers close to their chests and never decentralised them. This was the reason people were never able to decide or take part in development projects of their areas. Throughout these 70 years, Congress, NC and PDP kept powers with MPs and MLAs and never asked local people to be part the of development process by decentralising powers. Raman Suri said now that these outfits are out of power, have lost ground, don't enjoy people's support and stand exposed before those whom they convinced that none other than them can ensure their development, they are running in desperation for some opportunities and trying to woo real time panchayat members and elected councillors to save their faces. The BJP leader said that now Panchayats and MCs besides other local bodies are functioning to the best satisfaction of people. Now that, Mayor and Deputy Mayor besides elected councillors are putting in their best efforts to beautify their wards and add more facilities in them by indulging in a kind of competition, democracy is actually involving those at the grass root levels.
