New Delhi, Dec 10: As many as 59 terrorists could have infiltrated through the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir since August 2019 whereas 84 attempts were made, the Lok Sabha was informed on Tuesday.
'Regular attempts for infiltration by terrorists through the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir are sponsored and supported from across the border. Since August 2019, a total of 84 such attempts have been made from across the border and it is estimated that 59 such terrorists could have infiltrated,' the Home Ministry said in reply to a question.
Responding to supplementaries during Question Hour, Minister of State for Home R Kishan Reddy said false news were being propagated by the neighbour country, and it is the responsibility of the government to maintain law and order and ensure that there is no violence or cross-border infiltration.
'Best possible legal measures have been taken for state's interest. Not a single person has been killed in police firing since August 5,' he stressed.
Schools were open and all hospitals and medical centres were operating, Mr Reddy said, adding that as many as 7,67,470 OPD patients were treated in Srinagar only in September.
"Whatever measures need to be taken to protect law and order in Jammu and Kashmir, will continue to be taken by this government," he said.
An amount of Rs 4,800 crore has been released for government employees in J and K, he said.
All leading newspapers in English and Urdu were publishing papers and all channels were operating, he pointed out.
He stressed that police and army were working in proper coordination to maintain law and order in Jammu and Kashmir.
