SMC official allows construction of illegal commercial complex near his office
12/10/2019 10:54:00 PM
Early Times Report
srinagar, Dec 10: A senior official at the Srinagar Municipal Corporation has been allegedly grabbing so much of fortunes through unfair means that in the latest he has allowed illegal commercial complex to come up right near his office here.
Official sources said there was a single storey shopping line right near the main office of the SMC at Karan Nagar.
Officials said the area comes under proposed road widening and thus no further construction of any sort can be allowed along this main road.
But in brazen violation of the norms, the SMC official allowed the owner of the single storey shop line to raise first floor. Early Times is in possession of the ongoing construction.
"Under no norms could such a construction be allowed. But here in this case the SMC has allowed the construction right under its nose only to expose the level corruption in the civic body," said a senior official on the condition of anonymity.
The complex is presently getting façade facelift and would be inaugurated in the coming days.
Officials sources said satellite imaging and the inputs as taken by the intelligence wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police can prove that the construction and completion of the first floor of the complex has been taken up recently.
A senior official in the SMC said the matter of such illegal constructions was brought into the notice of the concerned higher ups but that they preferred to be silent.
"There was pressure from top level that SMC official is about to retire and it's high time for him to take advantage of uneasy situation in Kashmir to mint fortunes," the sources said.
As already reported by Early Times, a group of concerned citizens is writing a detailed memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor GC Murmu to apprize him about brazen Master Plan violations being allowed by the SMC, especially in the last six months.
The accused SMC-official while refuting the charges has been seeking "personal meeting" with the Early Times reporter.
