JAMMU, Dec 12: Financial Commissioner, Finance, Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta, today convened a meeting to discuss proposal of School Education department seeking engagement of Quality Council of India (QCI) for further improving the education quality in government schools.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary School Education, Sarita Chauhan; CEO, QCI and senior Advisor of the assessment agency besides other senior officers of the department.
Financial Commissioner discussed with the QCI members about the parameters on which the Council assesses the schools. He suggested the QCI visiting team to take into consideration the diversity of geography and academic calendar of J&K while doing assessment.
Dr. Mehta directed the officers of the education department to have an objective assessment of the proposal.
Commissioner Secretary informed the meeting that the project would help in improving the school processes and build capacity of the department by creating a team of internal assessors. She apprised that after the baseline assessment, an action plan will be framed by the assessment agency and the same would be used to structure interventions to upgrade the teaching-learning processes. The outcome of the intervention will be assessed after fixed intervals on adopted benchmarks.
The assessment agency would provide pool of external assessors to guide the internal ones from time to time. It would also develop IT based tools to continuously evaluate and monitor the performance of teachers and students and generate an analysis report, the meeting was informed.
The members of QCI informed the meeting that the agency has already implemented similar kind of projects in the schools under New Delhi Municipal Corporation and Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai besides other government schools in Delhi and Orissa.
