'Third front' in talks with ousted PDP leader on 'secret alliance'
12/12/2019 10:58:40 PM
Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Dec 12: The so called "Third Front" in Kashmir led by a senior politician from north Kashmir is in talks with an ousted leader of the Peoples Democratic Party to "explore options of contesting" upcoming Assembly elections in the union territory of Jammu and Kashmir "jointly as a secret alliance".
Sources said soon after returning from Dubai, the ousted PDP leader, who is a businessman turned politician, has started negotiations with the "third front" that comprises of politicians including a former minister from Tangmrag constituency, apart from a senior leader from central Kashmir's Budgam and their allies.
Sources said the meetings have been fruitful till now and the two groups are not adverse to hold talks on the issue of contesting the upcoming elections jointly.
Sources said the third front had asked the ousted PDP leader about his strength on the ground to which he has replied to having support in eight constituencies including Batamaloo and Amira Kadal from Srinagar city, Rajpora in Pulwama and Rafiabad in Baramulla.
Sources said the two groups are holding talks "for success in the elections" that are likely to be held in the summers of 2020.
Sources said the two groups are planning to hold a "mega meeting" in Jammu in the coming weeks to decide future strategy.
The top leader of the "Third Front" was recently released from house arrest and is free to move around whereas some of the close aides of the ousted PDP leader were also released from "house arrest" in the last two months.
Interestingly, the ousted PDP, who had last year "rebelled" against the Bharatiya Janta Party by trying hard to become the Chief Minister in the alliance between the National Conference and the PDP, was not arrested after abrogation of special status of Jammu and Kashmir.
The said leader has been frequently travelling abroad since.
Despite repeated attempts the two groups couldn't be contacted for comments.
