KVK Reasi organizes Training Programme

JAMMU, Dec 13: Krishi Vigyan Kendra(KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu(SKUAST-J) organised farmers training programme on Agri-Entrepreneurship development at remote village Matlote in Thuroo block of Reasi district of J&K.
The programme was actively attended by a large number of tribal farmers/women farmers/rural youths of the area. The programme was organised under the able guidance and supervision of Director Extension and Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-J, Dr. KS Risam. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi while welcoming the participants spoke on agri-entrepreneurship and said the farmers that they should adopt the latest agricultural technologies so that their income and employment can be enhanced.
He guided the farmers on scientific cultivation of cereals, pulses, oilseeds, fruits, vegetables, marigold, mushroom, beekeeping, aromatic and medicinal plants etc. He said the farmers that by scientific commercial agriculture they can increase their crops production and thus they can raise their socio-economic status. He further added that hilly areas have immense potential in organic fruits and vegetables and added that farmers can fetch more prices by growing the organic fruits and vegetables. He highlighted the eco-friendly agricultural technologies for sustainable agriculture.
He discussed on Farmers Producer Organizations (FPOs) and added that by forming Self Help Groups' (SHGs) farmers can start the agri-entrepreneurship by getting the micro-finance from the commercial banks. He gave the scientific techniques for vermicomposting and elaborated its benefits. He also guided the farmers for the organic inputs formulations. He recommended certain biofungicides and biopesticides for the management of insect-pests and diseases. Dr. Suja Nabi Qureshi spoke on commercial horticulture.
He emphasised on the cultivation of medicinal and aromatic plants like lemongrass, vetiver, palmarosa, phalsa and others as the area is infested with the monkey menace and these medicinal plants are not affected by the monkeys. He further gave technical guidelines on floriculture specially marigold cultivation, vegetables and fruit processing etc. Success stories of some of the farmers of the area were also elaborated. In this training programme many quarries were raised by the farmers which KVK scientist answered in a very satisfactorily way.
