Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 13: Transport Nagar of Jammu has been facing official apathy ever since it has come to existence as it has always been ignored in regard to development despite being one the busiest commercial area. The dilapidated roads, choked lanes and drains, huge piles of garbage, low capacity PDD transformer welcome the visitors.
Sources told Early Times that there are five departments which are directly involved for its developments but none bother to take up its responsibility for its upliftment. "Jammu Development Department which had developed this Transport Nagar and along with it, the other departments including Jammu Municipal Corporation, Urban Environmental Engineering Department, Public Health Engineering Department and Power Development Department but all these departments miserably failed to provide facility," they said.
They said further adding that the roads are in total dilapidated conditions which have developed huge potholes across the Transport Nagar, which is spread in hundreds of kanals of land and comprised of over 1400 commercial shops and many plots. "Main road and link roads which measured over 20 kms of length but only 3 kms of stretch has been blacktopped till date while rest of the stretch was left. Besides, there is total insanitation in this area and huge piles of garbage lying unattended. Despite number of repeated complaints to JMC yet no step was taken to sort this issue for good" they alleged.
They further said that after repeated intervention, the issue of development of Transport Nagar was taken by JDA, which prepared a plan worth Rs 22 crore which was including blacktopping of roads, construction and repair of lanes and drains, laying of PHE water supply pipelines, increasing the number of PDD transformers, was submitted to government for its approval, which has been awaiting government' nod for the last many months.
