DBPS hails citizenship amendment bill

Jammu, Dec 14: Dogra Brahman Pratinidhi Sabha said that citizenship (Amendment) Law 2019 as historic one and hailed the BJP leadership for taking such decision.
"Law will open doors for those waiting for many years in an almost stateless condition in our country for citizenship". DBPS President Ved Parkash Sharma said this while addressing a Bhagwan Parsu Ram Murti Sathapana Samaroah at Vijaypur.
Speaking on the occasion, senior Advocate P.C Sharma said that those migrants who had come over into India living here would be given an opportunity to claim citizenship, adding that no country in the world allows non citizens the rights of citizen and has its own ways of determining citizenship.
The last time such an exercise was under taken in India was 1951. Sharma reminded that late Home Minister, CPI leader Inderjit Gupta in the Gujral Govt., had said in parliament that there were 1.25 crore illegal residents. This particular law is intended to address the Partition, he added.
