Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 15: As the sun blazes in town on Sunday morning following continuous rain and snowfall, the Sunday market also witnessed huge rush of shoppers.
As per the details available with Early Times, the concept of Sunday market has put its roots deep at Kishtwar and on every Sunday the market starts from wee hours of the morning and street vendors displaying their products on both sides of the main road as well as on Bus Stand Kishtwar with different items in general and the readymade garments, blankets, utensils, other house hold items for display and particularly calling for sale of products at nominal rates as compared to the items available on sale in genuine market.
The business according to the marketer is unchecked and the vendors have not been made accountable by any authority where from they have purchased the items and what is the margin of profit along with the quality of the products on sale added that the vendors are getting the cost of items on their own sweet will, and even some vendors are strangers for every one.
Reports reveal that majority of them had no registration with any authority at Kishtwar and identity of some vendors have not been known so far to even law enforcement agencies- however some officials from Municipal Committee Kishtwar were often seen collecting taxes from these vendors and ferry Walas, but no one according to the sources knows wether the said taxes collected from these vendors goes into government exchequer or a part of it.
The vendors offered fresh items all together with some old items are being sold there whether the customers / general public are getting the genuine item on reasonable rates or have been deceived is a matter of concern .
The authorities including Kishtwar Muncipality are mute spectator over the matter.
The people buying the products told the Early Times that they have no concern whether these vendors are registered or not added that they have only one thing in mind that these Sunday market vendors are offering the products at cheaper rates which in some case is at above 80% discount.
The people said that at the time when price hike of daily items and inflation is very high due to various reasons, these Sunday markets are proving beneficial for the poor people, particularly those reach Kishtwar town from far flung villages.
Some Shopkeepers dealing in sale of various products available at these Sunday markets shows concern as same make direct impact on their businesses while at the same time some says everyone has right to earn added that if poor people could be benefited from these open Sunday markets, they have no objection over it until and unless they sell the genuine products in these markets. They said that it is the responsibility of the Authorities to look into the aspect.
