Over 2 lakh tiles procure in papers for Kishtwar’s Bhunzwah block

Jammu Jan 10: After unearthing major scandals in different blocks of Kishtwar District with regard to fraudulent withdrawal of material under MGNREGA, money released under 13th & 14th FC, another scandal rocks Kishtwar’s Bhunzwah block wherein the former Block Development Officer with the help of an MPW and VLW who also look after the accounts in the said block draws several lakhs on account of tiles purchase that had never been used and can be seen only in papers.
As per the details available with “Early Times, the former BDO Bhunzwah (now retired) manage to procure over two lakh tiles in papers against the various works to be executed in remote Bhunzwah block of Kishtwar District—the block which is considered as remote and poorest having no proper road connectivity and other facilities available with the people.
In a well coordinated nexus with one MPW, VLW and few GRS & Technical Assistants, the said BDO manage to withdraw the huge payments against the fake bills on account of purchase of over two lakh tiles and each tiles normally cost around Rs. 28-30/tile beside also shows cement worth several lakhs as utilization in fixing of these tiles along with material worth several lakhs in the form of Sand and Bajrae has also been withdrawn along with payments on the name of skilled and unskilled labourers that makes this scandal more bigger.
The official sources told the Early Times that the scandal dated back to financial year 2018-19 and to the utter surprise the officer after swindling several lakhs mange his transfer to another block of the District with only few months left in his retirement.
Earlier Technical Assistant in one of the block working as store in charge sell out cement worth approximately Rs. 20 lakhs meant for various developmental works to private parties.
It is pertinent to mention that Bhunzwah block recently comes in news following the withdrawal of several lakhs of rupees on the name of Panches and Sarpanches forcing Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar to order an inquiry into the matter after receiving several public complaints.
ADDC Kishtwar Mohammad Hanief Malik has been appointed as nodal officer to analysis the genuine stakeholders before releasing the material payments on the name of vendors in Kishtwar District.
