‘Nobody has authority to expel us’

SRINAGAR, Jan 10: Peoples Democratic Party seems to be in disarray as several leaders have refused to accept their expulsion from the party while many have tendered their resignation on Friday.
Media advisor to former chief minister Mehbooba Mufti’s Suhail Bukhari on Thursday announced the decision about expulsion of nine party leaders from the PDP for “violating the party interest” by meeting envoys of 15 countries on Thursday and Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu earlier this week.
Former minister Abdul Majeed Paddar said that expulsion was “not acceptable” to them.
“Our party president Mehbooba Mufti is in jail while patron Muzaffar Beigh is in Jammu. Who expelled us from the party,” Paddar asked.
He said there exists no disciplinary committee in the PDP. “If any leader indulge in anti-party activity, the disciplinary committee takes a decision then issue a notice and the under question leader has to respond. Suhail Bukhari has no authority to issue such statement,” he said.
Paddar claimed they did not indulge in any “anti-party” activity.
Former chief spokesperson of PDP, Rafi Ahmad Mir said they were still part of the PDP. “Nobody can expel us when there is no disciplinary committee in place. Who are these unknown faces who expelled us?” he asked.
He said only Mehbooba Mufti has authority to expel any leader if anyone is found involved in “anti-party” activities.
Besides Paddar and Mir, other former PDP legislators Noor Mohammad Sheikh, Javaid Beigh, Abdul Rahim Rather met envoys. Before this Dilawar Mir of PDP along with party members Zaffar Iqbal, Choudhary Qamar Hussain and Raja Manzoor Ahmad (PDP) had accompanied Ghulam Hassan Mir and Altaf Bukhari and submit a memorandum to the Lieutenant Governor Girish Chandra Murmu.
Earlier, Rajya Sabha member Nazir Ahmad Laway too refused to accept his expulsion from the party.
For the last two years, several senior PDP leaders like Imran Raza Ansari, Altaf Bukhari, Abid Ansari were either expelled or they left the party for several reasons.
Meanwhiile, senior PDP leaders Dr Mir Samiullah, Yawar Mir and Muntazir Mohiuddin have tendered resignation from the party.
Samiullah said he tendered resignation from the basic membership of PDP because “the party has failed to rise up to the needs and expectations of members”.
Samiullah claimed PDP has been in complete disarray for last two years. “With such disharmony and confusion within party line, it is impossible for the party to represent common masses,” he said.
“I find no reason to continue being in the party. I will continue to serve common masses of Pulwama,” he added.
