3 day training programme on Urban Agriculture organised

JAMMU, Jan 17: State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI-J) organized three day's training programme on "Urban Agriculture" from 15-17 January 2020 at training hall main campus SKUAST-Jammu Chatha. The training programme was attended by 39 participants from agriculture, floriculture, sericulture and fisheries departments.
Dr. K.S. Risam Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Jammu and Director SAMETI-J while inaugurating the training programme emphasized upon participants for maximum interaction during training for effective awareness among urban people about "Urban Agriculture". He also emphasized on multi-dimensions of "Urban Agriculture" and different urban agriculture production systems. Dr. R.K. Gupta Director Research SKUAST-Jammu delivered a lecture on container gardening for growing vegetables and herbs under Urban Agriculture and emphasized that this type of gardening will provide fresh vegetables in addition to reducing stress, feel happier and great boost to health of urban people. Dr. Raj Kumar Rampal Prof. & Head Environmental Sciences University of Jammu emphasized that urban waste management, its proper disposal and treatment will definitely reduce health hazard and provide manure, electricity and gas at cheaper rates to urban poor families.
