Advisor Bhatnagar advocates Policy of Zero tolerance against traffic rule violators

JAMMU, JANUARY 17- Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar, today pitched for evolving a Policy of Zero Tolerance against violators of traffic rules. The Advisor was speaking at the valedictory function of 31st National Road Safety Week held at Police Auditorium, Gulshan Ground.
Speaking on the occasion, Advisor Bhatnagar said that road safety is an essential part of our lives and we must obey traffic rules for our own safety and convenience. He said that we need to inculcate the concept of defense driving during driving like maintaining distance, proper use of lights etc while on wheels. He reiterated that such things will help in preventing road mishaps to a great extent.
He also emphasized upon maintaining calmness while driving and making it a habit to give way to emergency vehicles like ambulances and fire tenders.
He complimented the students for performing informative cultural skits on road safety measures. He added that the impact of such performances has deep and long lasting impact in inculcating the necessary changes in the habits of common masses.
Advisor Bhatnagar also complimented the transport and police departments for organising such events and said that the road safety awareness should be made a regular feature. He also advised that all the stakeholders should work in cohesion for making road safety a permanent affair. On the occasion, the Advisor inaugurated the e-rickshaws to encourage use of green transport and green fuel system in Jammu city. Speaking on the occasion, Transport Commissioner, Owais Ahmed, said that during the road safety week, mass awareness was created among the general public throughout J&K. He added that around 20 medical check up camps were held in which 5700 drivers were thoroughly investigated by the medical experts.
IGP Traffic, T Namgyal, said that we should develop civic sense among ourselves then only we can follow traffic rules responsibly.
Pertinently, the 31st National Road Safety Week was observed from January 11 to January 17, 2020 across Jammu and Kashmir with focus on spreading awareness about traffic rules and regulations and safe driving among the people in general and teen agers in particular.
Later, the Advisor Bhatnagar felicitated the participants with trophies who participated in different events held during Road Safety Week. He also honoured different sponsors of the event for making it a successful affair.
Director State Motor Garages, Z H Choudhary; Special Secretary, Transport department, Rahul Sharma; Additional Secretary Road Safety Council, R K Bhat; Regional Transport Officer (RTO), Jammu Dhanatar Singh; school children, NCC cadets, NSS volunteers and other people were also present on the occasion.
