EARLY TIMES REPORT

NOWSHERA, Jan 17: The Public Works Department (PWD) Nowshera has allegedly been carrying out substandard construction work of bunkers near LoC villages of Sub Division Nowshera of district Rajouri putting lives of the people in great risk.
Sources told Early Times that the construction of bunkers being carried out in all LoC areas across Jammu and Kashmir where shelling continuously takes place by Pakistan, due to which many people get severely injured and many lost their precious lives.
Raising question over poor quality work by PWD, the locals alleged that substandard work is being carried out in the construction of bunkers by the executing agency, which can be proved fatal for the residents during shelling. “The work being executed is not up to the mark, no RCC boundary wall is being raised over the roof of bunker, which is necessary for its protection. At least 2-3 feet high RCC boundary has to be raised, which is filled with earth so that shells coming across the border may not penetrate the roof and the lives of the people taking shelter in the bunkers be saved,’ said Ajay Kumar, Deep Choudhary, Kuldeep Singh, the local residents.
Other residents including Krishan Lal, Madan Lal informed the foundation of these bunkers are not of good quality, which poses threat to its durability.
When contacted Executive Engineer PWD Nowshera Mohammad Pervez, denied the allegations and informed that there is fault in design and no substandard material is being used for its consecution.
Sources further informed that not only the bunkers, even the roads which have been constructed by the PWD in the district are not of good quality as these roads have started getting off after few months of their construction.
