EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 17: Weakness of J&K Congress was exposed in two-day executive committee meeting of the party in which some leaders made it clear that party does not have competent candidates to fight BJP. Some leaders suggested that new faces must be encouraged to contest assembly elections, whenever held in J&K.
Credible sources said that during discussions on situation in J&K, Ghulam Nabi Azad and Ambika Soni asked the leaders to launch agitation for early assembly elections. When both the leaders asked participants to launch agitation for early assembly elections, some local leaders raised the questions that party does not have potential candidates to fight BJP. They suggested that inefficient and arrogant leaders, facing corruption and other charges should be relieved from the party and fresh faces must be encouraged to revive party in J&K in general and Jammu region in particular.
Sources said that some leaders suggested that fresh, young and honest faces should be given green signal to work in their respective constituencies. They suggested that new faces should be selected for the seats where Congress party had lost elections in 2014 assembly polls.
After the meeting party passed a resolution in which it was demanded that all curbs and restrictions on mainstream political parties, their leaders and activists should be lifted to allow them to resume their usual political activities to create a congenial and conducive political atmosphere for a meaningful and credible political process to pave way for holding of early assembly elections.
