Pak rakes Kashmir to avoid FATF deadline
‘China supports the country, which has become breeding ground of terrorism’
1/20/2020 12:26:53 AM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 19: As the deadline set by the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) for Pakistan is drawing closer, the neighbouring country is once again trying to divert the attention of the international community from terrorism, which it has been nurturing for the past many decades.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “If Pakistan fails to satisfy the FATF about the steps it has taken to curb terrorism and the funding of the terror outfits, it could easily slip from FATF grey-list to blacklist.”
He said, “Entire world is aware about the fact that Pakistan, which has become bankrupt, won’t be able to meet the February 2020 deadline set up by the FATF. And the FATF may go ahead with its plan to put Pakistan in the blacklist, which will ensure that no country would enter into any sort of financial dealing with Pakistan.”
An observer said that China which has made huge investment in CPEC corridor in Pakistan occupied Kashmir could end up to be the biggest loser if FATF blacklists Pakistan. “In an attempt to save its investment in PoK, China is making bids to involve international community by talking about Kashmir. Its seems, Pakistan’s all weather friend, China wants to help its neigbouring country, which during all these years has emerged as the breeding ground for terrorists, by diverting the attention of the world from real issue of terrorism,” he said.
The observer said that both China and Pakistan are once again trying their best to shift the focus of the international community towards Kashmir. “Both the countries know it very well that anti-India propaganda unleashed by Pakistan has fallen flat. There is no clampdown in Kashmir and barring a few restrictions on communication life has almost returned to normal in the Valley. Pakistan has been left with no more lies to sell,” he said.
Another analyst said, “Pakistan upping its ante is a clear attempt to somehow save itself from the inevitable i.e. FATF’s blacklist. Our country needs to be cautious as the coming days are crucial. Pakistan can go to any extent to buy some more time.”
He said that intelligences have already sounded an alarm and the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir are on toes. “It looks inevitable that Pakistan is all set to figure in the blacklist as the designated international terrorists like Hafiz Saeed, and Moulana Masood Azhar are moving freely there as the law enforcing agencies in Pakistan have failed to act against them,” the analyst added.
