DSP Davinder Singh case: Another suspect arrested in J&K, handed over to NIA

New Delhi, Jan 20: The Jammu and Kashmir Police has arrested another suspect in the case relating to now-suspended deputy superintendent Davinder Singh, who was arrested in the company of militants earlier this month. The J&K Police arrested one Irfan Shah and handed him over to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which is investigating the matter.
Shah has been identified as the brother of Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Naveed Babu, who was one of the militants caught along with DSP Davinder Singh last week. With the latest arrest, the number of those in police custody has now gone up to five.
Sources said that Naveed operated through his brother Irfan. Since Irfan would travel to Punjab often, he could access internet.
The J&K Police had its net around him for the past two months, just like Naveed Shah alias Naveed Babu. It was Babu who led the police to the now disgraced DSP Davinder Singh.
Even as a five-member NIA team probes the Davinder Singh’s alleged link, the J&K Police is parallel investigating DSP for travelling to Bangladesh without official permission. J&K Police DGP Dilbag Singh said, “DSP Davinder Singh had paid visit to Bangladesh. It has come to our knowledge that his daughters studied in Bangladesh. It is being investigated if his visits were restricted only to that.”
