Srinagar, Jan 20: Minimum temperatures continued their free fall in the Kashmir Valley on Monday due to clear overnight sky, a Met official said.
He said that they were expecting another spell of light snowfall and rains in plains and moderate snowfall in the upper reaches of Kashmir from January 21.
He said the main snowfall activity would be on January 21 and the upper reaches in Ladakh would also receive light snowfall during the same period.
“This spell of snowfall will likely provide relief from cold wave in Kashmir and parts of Ladakh as night temperatures are dropping continuously,” he said.
Leh town of Ladakh region recorded the lowest minimum temperature at minus 17.6 degrees Celsius while famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 12.8 was the coldest in the valley followed by Pahalgam at minus 9.0.
The minimum temperature recorded in the Srinagar city was minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, an official of the Meteorological Department said.
Kupwara township of north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 5.8 degrees Celsius. Kokernag, in south Kashmir, recorded minus 5.4 degrees Celsius, he said.
In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded 7.6 degrees Celsius, Katra recorded 6.4, Banihal recorded minus 0.8, Batote recorded minus 0.5 and Bhaderwah minus 1.6 as the night’s lowest temperatures.
