Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 20: Some unscrupulous elements, posing themselves as transport agents have allegedly been selling agent cards, despite being banned by the department by charging Rs 500 just outside the RTO office Jammu openly but the concerned authority acting as mute spectators.
Sources told Early Times that two persons have been issuing agent cards, which are actually issued or renewed by the authority concerned to the representatives of transport agencies in past with motive to felicitate their works in office of RTO Jammu.
“Although, authority concerned has stopped such practice of issuance of new cards and their renewal with the objective to bring transparency to curb corruption but some people still have been openly selling agent license cards by making people under the nose of Transport Department,” they alleged.
They further said that such cards which were issued to the agents in 1995-96 and have been expired and were not renewed by the department by saying that no agent system will be allowed from now in the department and they will have to apply online for any services to make the system streamline and providing hassle free services to people.
They alleged that these persons are backed by some politicians who are associated with transport business and have been running their business affair through these agents which have been dominating the department and vitiating its atmosphere.
