Jammu-Pathankot NHW turns death trap as Bari Brahmana-Ghagwal stretch in shambles
1/21/2020 10:16:47 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 21: The Jammu-Pathankot National Highway (NHW) has become a death trap for the commuters as the vehicles in fast speed frequently get skidded off the road mainly due to the dilapidated condition of the road stretch between Bari Brahmana and Ghagwal, often resulting in fatal accidents. The authorities of NHW who are supposed to maintain it have turned a deaf ear to the same and all pleas of people have fallen on deaf ears.
''Despite protests launched by the people, the authorities of NHW pay no attention in maintaining the road,'' said Raghunandan, a resident of Ghagwal. "The NH has become a death trap for people and commuters but no one in administration bothers to look for its maintenance,'' he added."
“We have served an ultimatum to NHAI asking them to maintain and renovate the NHW failing which people will come to streets,'' said Ramesh Khajuria of Samba.
He said the issue was taken up with district administration also at a number of times but to no avail. He said the NHAI should be held responsible for loss of lives on National Highway due to its poor maintenance by NHAI over the years.
It is collecting hefty amounts as road tax but still it has failed to restore NHW. At present there are deep ditches and holes on NHW right from Ghagwal to Bari Brahmana due to which accidents frequently take place on this stretch of NHW.
The negligence on part of NHW authorities tantamount to criminal act and the people have warned to sue NHAI in court of law for the same. The people said in view of heavy rush on NHW the authorities should take all steps to restore the NHW to avert the accidents in future.
