Denies reply after 11 months of delay, RDD Jammu unmoved

Jammu, Jan 20: The office of Block Development Officer (BDO) Mendhar of Poonch district has allegedly denied information to an information seeker under Right to Information (RTI) Act ostensibly to hide embezzlements of funds committed in the block.
Nazim Ali Khan, the applicant, who had submitted a RTI application on 19-01-2019 with the office of BDO Mendhar seeking information regarding various development projects in block Mendhar but even after much delay of eleven months, the office didn’t give reply.
He further said that after denial by BDO Mendhar, he had lodged appeal to First Appellant Authority (FAA) Director Rural Development Department Jammu on 18-12-2019 but shockingly, no response was received from the FAA in contravention to RTI Act. He alleged that the information sought through RTI from the department was involved with huge embezzlement of funds done by the officials of the RDD in the name of development, and in order to save themselves, they have been continuously denying reply under RTI Act.
He said that he had asked for the information about payment made by the office for purchase of cement for various developments in block Mendhar during 2017-19, detail of total payment released to beneficiaries under Swatch Bharat Mission (SBM) during 2017-19 and the funds utilized in construction of Model Villages panchayat wise. He alleged that huge bungling have been done under SBM, double payments released against one toilet.
