EARLY TIMES REPORT

JAMMU, Jan 21: The election of Medical Teachers Association (MTA) of the Government Medical College and Hospital and its associated hospitals have not been conducted for the past more than 2 years. Despite the completion of the tenure of previous MTA, no such efforts were made to formulate a body to take up the faculty issues.
It is in place to mention here that the MTA had completed its 2 years tenure in the month of January 2017. Since then the doctors were trying to conduct the elections but the concerned authorities were requested to an initiative to start the process of elections but all in vain for best reasons known to them.
Sources told that in the year of 2018, some of the doctors had taken initiative to start the process of conducting MTA’s election and Returning Officer (RO) had also been nominated by the concerned official after facing huge hardship and then a HOD was appointed as (RO).
“But, later, RO was changed and Dr. Zahid Gillani had been appointed new RO and various hurdles were created to postpone the election process for smooth conducting of MTA elections 2017-19,” sources stated, adding that after getting information of cheap level politics started over the election, the Prof. Gillani had postponed the elections and nominated the then HOD Radiology Prof. Ghanshyam Dev as Chairman of Governing Council with few HODs as its members to put endeavors to create an atmosphere of harmony amongst faculty of this premier institution.
Senior doctors of the hospital said that a constant delay in holding election owing to the internal conflict and personal interest among the members of the previous association.
Penitently, they stressed due to the non-serious approach of the previous association even incumbent administration, the faculty members are facing numbers of problems but neither former association was serious about the problems nor the incumbent management is concerned.
They added that a new body should be elected so that the body will highlight the issues before concerned authorities.
